SouthTrust Operations Center
Birmingham, Alabama
The new 200,000 square foot operations center serves as a hub for all of SouthTrust’s centralized operations, support, and information systems. The data center totaled approximately 30,000 square feet. EDI was involved from the programming phase through the construction and move-ins, providing space planning, programming, and planning for future needs and requirements. Our design also included the telephone system, and LAN/WAN infrastructure.
Part of EDI’s approach was to discover the current connectivity of all information systems. Since SouthTrust did not maintain records of this, it was critical that we understood the current provisions in order to establish the new requirements. We determined which systems would be relocated, which systems would be improved, and which systems would have to be connected in a different way to enhance performance or to integrate with new systems. EDI assisted SouthTrust in developing and negotiating a new “SmartPath” (from Bellsouth) redundant service into its campus.
