Castillo de San Marcos St. Augustine, FL
EDI won this challenging project for the National Parks Service to create the capacity for live virtual tours of the gundeck, casemates, and rooms of this 15th century fort. In this way, visitors who cannot climb the original stone stairs will be given virtual access to the upper level and the live reenactments of historical events that are a major attraction of the tour. The Park Service elected not to compromise the original structure with a bridge walkway or elevator to allow wheelchair access and instead chose to devise an interactive video tour to be accessed from a room in the existing fort.
This dedicated, intimate, interactive video theater will employ high-resolution 16:9 video origination and rear screen projection, wireless video broadcast transmission, 2-way wireless audio systems, and engineered AV equipment enclosures for this extreme environment. The systems will be used to deliver and record live performances including cannon firing and changing-of-hands ceremonies. EDI is providing programming, design, budgeting, procurement, and construction administration services on this project.
